Artisans
Arvo Stile was born from a simple conviction — that the craftsmanship of East Africa deserves a place on the world stage. Every piece we offer, from handwoven baskets to tailored kitenge, is sourced directly from the artisans who made it.
We work with over fifty skilled makers across Tanzania — weavers, beadworkers, tailors and woodcarvers — to bring you objects with real story, real material, and real care. Whether you are outfitting your home or ordering a bespoke piece, you are not simply buying a product. You are carrying a piece of heritage forward.

Five Principles · One Standard
Textile
The Material
Every ARVO piece begins with the textile. We work with kitenge, batiki, kanga and a small library of natural fibres — seagrass, sisal, water hyacinth and raffia — selected for hand-feel, colour depth and how they age with use. Nothing is ordered from a catalogue. Everything is chosen in person, in the studio, by the people who will make it.
Craft
The Hand
Our pieces are woven, dyed, cut and finished by hand in Tanzania. We work with weavers, tailors and beadworkers whose techniques have been passed down for generations — and we credit them by name. No piece leaves the studio without a maker's mark and a final inspection.
Form
The Shape
We do not reproduce traditional forms — we reinterpret them. Every silhouette is developed for how people actually dress and live today: structured blazers, relaxed co-ords, clean-lined baskets, functional bags. The heritage lives in the material and the making. The form is entirely of the present.
Detail
The Decision
A contrasting Ankara lining inside a seagrass basket. A reinforced strap where the bag carries weight. A hand-rolled edge on a cushion. These are the decisions that separate a considered piece from a manufactured one — and they are the ones you only notice when you live with the piece.
Purpose
The Life
An ARVO piece is not an ornament. It is made to be carried every day, worn through seasons, filled and emptied, gifted and re-gifted. We design for longevity — in construction, in materials and in style — so that what you buy today is still what you reach for in ten years.
The Standard, Applied
Five principles. Every piece. No exceptions.
We are not trying to be everything to everyone. We make fewer things, better — with materials that mean something, and makers we can name. Here is why people choose Arvo Stile, and why they stay.
The Maker
Every piece carries the mark of the person who made it. We work with over 50 weavers, tailors, and beadworkers across Tanzania — and we credit them by name. No anonymous factories. No mass production.
